Progress Park Fitness

Before…

After…

The pull up bars at Progress Park had become rusted and broken. Parks users contacted the GBD about the possibility of replacing and upgrading the fitness area at the park. Street workout enthusiasts guided the specifications for new, state-of the art equipment. The new street workout fitness center at Progress park makes use of land beneath a 280 freeway onramp. The new equipment is in use all through the day, activating the western edge of the park.

After the new workout equipment and a small area for tai chi, sword work and other exercise were installed, the GBD landscaped the western edge of the park, replacing and extending the irrigation system and landscaping with native and drought tolerant plants.

The project was made possible with the help of Caltrans and funding assistance from a Community Challenge Grant and a generous donation from the Power Station development a few blocks away.

  • State-of-the-art street workout/calisthenics equipment with a resilient surface

  • Concrete pad for tai chi, sword work and other types of exercise

  • Repaired and expanded irrigation system

  • Added significant plantings on the west side

  • Improved pathways for better through-block connections
